The First Mass was celebrated on Palm Sunday, April 2, 1965. A few months earlier, September 17, 1964, to be exact, a small framed house with eight acres was purchased for the site from William and Elizabeth Lee Hord, for $12,500. There were 60 students enrolled in the Catholic Center for Religous Education. June 6, 1965, Msgr. Martin Froeschl suggests the name to be "Church of the Santa Fe". It was believed no other parishes along the trail had this name and with the proximity being so close to its origin, it seemed appropriate. Initially this was a mission parish to St. Mary's in Independence. The current site was built by F.P. Gehring Building Company for $35,000. Its first Mass was Christmas Eve, Midnight Mass, presumably circa 1965. Later, February 6, 1966, the building was dedicated utilizing a new rite from the Vatican II council, a first in the diocese. In May of 1968, 22 were confirmed. The Church of the Santa Fe was elevated to parish status on April 27, 1976. Fr. Reardon, first Pastor of the newly built site, July 1977. Just shy of one year later, air conditioning was installed. On June 3, 1990, a recital was performed to induct the Digital Computer Organ by the Pastor, then Father Ralph Kaiser, who played the organ, along with William Harkins, and David Russell.
